The Fallen Flags Project

The FALLEN FLAGS PROJECT is a gift from the heart honoring those soldiers who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Each large flag is 4’ by 7’ and is made up of individually enameled frames holding a photo of a fallen soldier, 1170 per flag.  There are currently six flags and the project will not be completed until all of our soldiers are home and those lost are remembered within the flags. Unfortunately, a seventh flag has been started.
My mission in this project is twofold, First, I hope to memorialize a group that gave everything for their country and to offer comfort to their loved ones.  They must know we haven’t forgotten.  My second goal is to reach those who have not been touched by these wars.  Americans are good, generous, and caring people, but we can get so caught up in our own daily struggles that we develop tunnel vision. I would like to offer the perspective that the fallen soldiers they view would give anything to be alive and battling those challenges of daily life.  I would like to urge them to reach out to a military family and the thousands of injured veterans to let them know we acknowledge the price they have paid.  The cost of these wars has been borne repeatedly by a relatively small number of soldiers.  I hope and believe that all Americans will want the opportunity to honor them.

The FALLEN FLAGS PROJECT has been on display at City Hall in New Haven, CT, and in the South Lobby of the Connecticut State Capitol.  I have donated it to the State of Connecticut and it can be viewed at the National Guard Armory in Hartford, CT.
